Gregory Boyd - Artist Biography
Gregory Boyd is an American singer, songwriter, and percussionist born and raised in New Orleans. His musical style is a vibrant blend of soul, jazz, funk, and gospel—defined by his warm, authentic soul vocals fused with the melodic steel pan, a traditional instrument from Trinidad and Tobago.
Boyd’s musical journey began in 1987 when he joined the United States Navy Drum Corps, touring extensively before leaving the military. He became a regular performer at New Orleans’ legendary Snug Harbor Jazz Club and later toured with Charles Neville of The Neville Brothers. His career has taken him to renowned jazz festivals and stages around the world.
In recent years, Boyd has collaborated with top musicians including Ark Ovrutski on bass, Alessandro D’Anna on drums, and Rodion Goborov on piano as part of The Gregory Boyd Quartet. This lineup toured Russia for four years, performing at prestigious venues like the Moscow House and in cities such as Vladivostok and Saint Petersburg.
Boyd is also recognized for his performance-lectures titled “Black in the USA”, where he shares messages of resilience and hope through music and storytelling.
Combining traditional Caribbean rhythms with modern genres and an engaging stage presence, Gregory Boyd stands out as a truly unique voice on the international music scene.
